The thing about Cannes is that the glamour is always unprecedented. It's an opportunity for movie stars, models, musicians and the like to have a scintillating moment on the French Riviera. It's not American-centric, so there's stars gathering from all across Europe and the rest of the globe. So while Bella Hadid will appear (and thank god, her red carpet moments are always on the money), so too will names like Agathe Rousselle, the French journalist who made her acting debut in body horror Titane, or German style standout Caroline Daur, widening the pool and allowing space for red carpet moments that are wholly unexpected and as a result, deeply satisfying.
In its 76th year, Cannes film festival also arrives with a great deal of history. Its origins date back to the early days of WWII, and was founded in response to Venice film festival. In the decades since, the festival has championed thousands of films and has been attended by everyone from Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg to Princess Diana and Sofia Loren. Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson have even had their Cannes moments.
