If you told us The Weeknd was starring in a new movie with Barry Keoghan and Jenna Ortega, we would probably say you're lying, because we all know a Tedros, Olive Quick and Wednesday Adams cross over would blow our minds, probably for the amount of laws they would break for being the absolute freakiest movie.
But believe it, because The Weeknd's feature-film debut, Hurry Up Tomorrow, has officially found a home with Lionsgate, and is set to hit cinemas sooner than you think. Intrigued? Us too. Below, everything we know about Hurry Up Tomorrow.
What is Hurry Up Tomorrow about?
While details of the plot are still under wraps, we know that the film is billed as a psychological thriller, and is an extension of The Weeknd's third album by the same name.
According to Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, “Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium. With Hurry Up Tomorrow, in partnership with [director Trey Edward Shults], his musical universe expands onto the big screen with a psychological thriller that will usher in a new cinematic experience for fans. We are thrilled to be bringing it to audiences worldwide.”
Who's involved in Hurry Up Tomorrow?
It's a pretty star-studded cast so far. Along with the Weeknd and Jenna Ortega, the film will also star Barry Keoghan, who's starred in the likes of The Banshees of Inisherin (which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor) and, more recently, Saltburn.
Behind the scenes, the film was directed by Waves' Trey Edwards Shults, and co-written by Reza Fahim, who also co-created The Idol. In addition to music from The Weeknd's upcoming album, the film will be scored by the singer, as well as Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss of Oneohtrix Point Never. They also scored the Safdie brothers' stress-inducing Uncut Gems.
When will Hurry Up Tomorrow be released?
While there's is no confirmed premiere date, 2024 was initially speculated as the release year for Hurry Up Tomorrow. As we inch closer to the end of the year, we expect this might be pushed until 2025.
