Proof that airport style was at its best in the 90s

airport style

Most of us are content with wearing loungewear on a plane. No one wants to be digging denim out of their crotch on a long-haul flight. We want to be cosy as we watch whatever new film made it onto the mini screen and accidentally drip under-seasoned beef bourguignon into our lap. But there are some airport scenarios when a tracksuit doesn't fly, even if it is matching.

Take an interstate trip for work. Rolling from airport to boardroom in Juicy Couture is certainly a 10 in my eyes, but might be received as unprofessional. Whatever that means. Then there are the times when your destination is ten degrees above what is considered a comfortable temperature, and no one wants to be staggering through airport security with armfuls of luggage and sweat patches bleeding through your marle grey trackies.

So what to wear? Some of us see airport dressing as an opportunity to carry additional clothes overseas. Others are completely stumped by the brief. In any case, if you're seeking out inspiration, the 90s is the first place you should look. Baggy layers, cardigans, loafers, Louis Vuitton and Levi's – these are the people that did it best.
