Hydrobrasion: What it is and how it can help rejuvenate your skin

what is hydrobrasion

Those with an affinity for skin care and innovations that may improve the appearance of their epidermis likely already know the benefits of microdermabrasion, but there’s a new kid on the block renewing skin and clearing pores. Hydrobrasion, a serum-based resurfacing fashion treatment combining water and oxygen to exfoliate the top layer of skin, is set to become a go-to treatment into 2022 all in the name of supple, hydrated skin. For those who may not know how it works or who can employ the treatment, we’ve broken down the ins and outs of hydrobrasion and how it can work for you.

What is hydrobrasion?

Hydrobrasion is a relatively new procedure that gently flushes the skin of congestion to help restore healthy skin function. It is a less invasive version of microdermabrasion with the ‘hydra’ component helping to open the pores and prepare skin for the nourishing formulas applied in the treatment, working to rejuvenate the epidermis. Hydrobrasion can be performed across the face, neck and back.

Hydrobrasion works through the following ways:

Cleansing and exfoliation:

Throughout the treatment process, hydrobrasion helps remove the stratum corneum, resulting in skin feeling smoother and promoting collagen growth.

Extracting and stimulating:

The vacuum action of the treatment draws away dead skin cells, white and blackheads while stimulating circulation. This can promote increased blood flow to the area.

Hydration:

Over the course of a treatment, the skin is left feeling supple and hydrated, with collagen and elastin production stimulated. This means skin is left feeling more firm and plump.

How is the treatment conducted?

Hydrobrasion treatment is performed with a diamond tip, coming in varying strengths. The size is adjustable to the thickness of your skin and the treatment begins once the technician has cleansed the area being treated. After the cleansing, physiological saline is applied to the skin for a cooling, soothing effect, with the technician gradually exfoliating every part of the skin, leaving it deeply cleansed.

What does hydrobrasion treat?

Hydrobrasion can treat multiple skin concerns, including:

Acne Scarring:

By removing the top layers of dead skin cells from the surface of the epidermis, hydrabrasion can be quite effective in treating acne. Through removing the dead skin cells, it unclogs pores and minimised the chance of additional spots appearing.

Dry skin:

If you have an uneven skin tone, this typically renews itself every 28 days however through hydrobrasion’s ability to extract dead skin cells, it can seep up the rate at which the skin renews. This can lead to rejuvenated, dewy skin feeling suppler than abrasive to touch.

Fine lines and wrinkles:

Through ageing, elastin and collagen production slows down, leading to the emergence of fine lines and wrinkles. Due to the vacuum action, hydrobrasion treatments stimulate collagen production and increase skin renewal, improving the condition of the skin’s surface and minimising the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Blackheads:

As mentioned throughout, the extraction technique of hydrobrasion in removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores works towards removing blackheads and clearing the skin.

How long does hydrobrasion take to perform?

A hydrobrasion treatment takes between 30-60 minutes.

How will my skin feel after a treatment?

Immediately after your treatment, it is common for skin to feel tender. However, in the weeks following, you should notice an immediate improvement to skin elasticity and tone, with this now significantly improved. You may also notice your pores are smaller and any tendency to break out is becoming less frequent or entirely non-existent.

After treatment, skin may have some redness for 2-3 days with SPF required to be applied for a week afterwards to protect the skin from UV rays. Its recommended to book 3-7 treatments at intervals of two weeks to see maximum reward from the process. Results may vary for individuals, and it is always important to speak with you technician beforehand about any concerns you may have about your skin type and the treatment.
