After a lengthy hiatus from the realm of publishing, the director and designer is returning once again. Similarly to his first book, his new tome will serve as a visual diary of sorts; documenting the 15 years after Ford left Gucci. We'll be immersed into his experiences entering the worlds of fragrance and beauty; his return to design, and his contributions in filmmaking through a combination of diarised chapter openers and the images the brought the stories to life.
Accompanying these stories are pages filled with celebrity moments, lush images, and unforgettable editorials and advertising campaigns. Speaking in a recent interview about Tom Ford 002, the designer revealed that he initially started with an edit of over 1,000 pages; then, dropping down to 700 and finally settling on a curated edit of 400 pages of unmissable, unforgettable moments. Fifteen years sandwiched between the two book ends – signalling the end of one chapter and the start of another.
"‘Well, what have I done the last 15 years?’ And when I realise that I’ve created this brand and had a child and made two films, at the end of it, I thought, ‘Okay, wow. I did something.’ I’m also the kind of person who likes to file things away and move on, so it was nice to put that 15 years into a slip cover and at age 60 start the next chapter. It was very much a chapter of my life," he shared.
