In the year of 2021, books are being fashioned into on screen dramas before they've even landed on store shelves. As is the case for Stacy Willingham's debut novel, A Flicker in the Dark, which has been snatched up by HBO Max and will be adapted into a TV series with the indie filmmaking machine that is A24 and Emma Stone's production company 'Fruit Tree'. Already, we're sensing some Liane Moriarty-scale hype.

Why are all these TV and film monoliths so hot off the mark for Willingham's novel? Scheduled for publication in the US during January next year, A Flicker in the Dark's storyline shows promise as another bone-chilling mystery for us all to obsess over. So if you loved Mare of Easttown or The Undoing then this one's for you.

While there's no official synopsis for A Flicker in the Dark the TV series, bouncing off what we know about the book, the show will follow the trials of Chloe Davis. According to Variety, the novel pivots off of Chloe at twelve years of age where her whole world is turned on its head following her father's confession "to the murder of six teenage girls in their small Louisiana town". When we are introduced to Chloe in the book, she's now 32 and living in Baton Rouge as a psychologist, yet her life begins to unravel once more when local teens begin to go missing - including someone she knows.

Unfortunately there's no word of when the series will hit our screens. Which makes complete sense considering casting isn't even underway and so, of course, neither is production. As always, as soon as we find out more details we'll be sure to keep you in the loop.

In the meantime, you're going to need to balance out all that suspense and thus tension that A Flicker in the Dark is bound to evoke with something joyful. So why not plunge into theses feel good TV shows while we wait for updates?
