Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao is truly unstoppable. A year on from the release of her multi award-winning film, Nomadland; the hype around her incredible directorial vision doesn't seem to be slowing anytime soon. So, after the success of the last year for Zhao, where does one go next? Naturally, to lend a hand on one of the biggest and most successful film franchises in the entertainment industry. Yes, that's right, Zhao is entering the Marvel Universe, and we finally have our first look at her upcoming MCU debut, Eternals.
From the limited insight we've been given so far, it's already abundantly clear Marvel is certainly not playing around with Eternals. The star-studded epic tells the story of the next round of superheroes to enter the Marvel Universe; to tell the tale of Earth’s earliest, most powerful superheroes who have just emerged from hiding. If you're familiar with the tragic events of the last Marvel film, Avengers: Endgame, you'll agree that a new, fortified team of protectors is much needed. This time, the formidable team is uniting to protect humankind from the Deviants, a tribe of super-villains. Just the usual Marvel shenanigans.

But what would a Marvel film be without an exemplary ensemble of Hollywood stars? Probably, just as good (especially with Zhao at the helm); but nonetheless, we welcome any opportunity to see Salma Hayek on screen. In addition to Hayek, who will play the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, you can also expect to see appearances from Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris; Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi; and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena among several other noteworthy faces. The movie will also features Marvel’s very first LGBTQ+ superhero, Phastos, played by Brian Tyree Henry.
Although it might still be a long way out, Eternals has been given an official release date of November 6, 2021. For all Marvel fans out there, this certainly feels like a big one.
