Stylist and creative Pernille Teisbaek is the first to admit that juggling daily life and motherhood is a balance she hasn't learnt just yet. But she says that as long as her children are smiling, she's happy to learn along the way. "That is the main goal to me," she says.
As a face involved in Pandora's new Exploration of Love series, a look inside what motherly loves means to women around the world, Teisbaek spoke with Pandora about her own experiences. Below, she shares how becoming a parent changed her life and how she manages to still find time for herself.
Describe ‘motherly love’ in three words?
Motherly love for me in three words, would be: unconditional, endless and extremely overwhelming.
How do you balance all you do with being a mother?
How I manage juggling daily life with having kids is actually a really difficult question. It’s a balance I haven’t learned yet, but I feel that I’m learning every day, and as long as my kids are happy and I’m happy, that is the main goal to me. I really admire those women out there that are doing it on their own. I think it’s absolutely incredible, I
would not be able to do that myself.
How has being a mother changed you, your life and career?
Having kids has changed a lot for me and for my husband as well, and as a family. Nothing is as it was before, but in many ways, it’s much better now. There’s a lot of values that I was missing in my life and a meaning with things and I’m, to be honest, really proud of being a mum. I’m getting emotional just talking about it!
Before you became a mother, did you have any thoughts of what kind of mother you wanted to be? And how does that compare to the reality?
I thought I would be very loving and careful with my kids and I definitely am, but I’m also more strict than I actually thought I would be. I think it’s very important that they learn both sides of you just so you know that they grow up to be great human beings.
What do you do when your children are tucked in at night?
We actually put them to bed quite early around 7 so we have a little time together me and my husband. It’s super important that me and my husband maintain our love and we keep our romantic moments and that’s the moments that I treasure a lot. We’re like the glue in the family, so if we don’t really put some effort into those moments, its nothing.
If you could choose one piece from the collection that you want to receive this Mother’s Day, what would it be and why?
I would pick the Sparkling Hoop Earrings for myself as hoops can be styled in so many different ways – for a cool everyday look with two in one ear or one hoop in each ear for a sparkling party look.
Who would you celebrate with a gift this Mother’s Day, which piece from the collection would you choose for her/them and why?
My Mum loves sparkling earrings just as much as I do, that is why I would choose the Sparkling Double Halo Stud Earrings for her – elegant studs, perfect for her short hair.
