Truly, is there anything our man Ewan McGregor can't do? Forever immortalised in our hearts and minds as Moulin Rouge's leading man, or as Trainspotting's troubled Mark Renton. No matter the role, we've fallen in love with his charming demeanour all the same. As if we needed another reason to keep him on the list of 'favourite white boys', we've just received our first look at Ewan McGregor as the famed, legendary fashion designer, Roy Halston Frowick, in the upcoming Netflix series. And it's truly perfect.
The new series is helmed by creator Ryan Murphy; and will follow McGregor in the role of Halston tracking his journey into becoming a worldwide fashion empire. The designer first rose to international fame after designing the pillbox hat Jackie Kennedy wore to JFK's presidential inauguration in 1961. From there on in, Halston became credited with redefining American fashion of the 70s and 80s; recognised for his minimalist designs that were often made of cashmere or ultrasuede. But just as his sartorial power was reaching its pinnacle; a hostel takeover of his company forced him to fight for arguably his most precious asset. His name – Halston.
According to Netflix, the official synopsis reads, "His name built an empire. His style defined an era. American fashion designer Halston skyrockets to fame before his life starts to spin out of control." The drama will also feature appearances from some of Halston's most treasured superstar friends of the time, including Liza Minnelli, Elsa Peretti and Eleanor Lambert.
Although there's no official trailer as yet, Netflix has released a series of Warhol-inspired polaroids of the cast, and they are giving us major Studio 54 vibes. Rightly so, of course; given that the nightclub was a regular spot for Halston and his entourage.
