When many of us think of luxury fashion houses, Greek heroines may not be the first to come to mind. Givenchy however, would like to testify. Celebrating love and honouring both the feminine and masculine in its new era of design, the Givenchy Antigona bag, named after the passionate Greek heroine Antigona, sees a new transformation by creative director Matthew M Williams for Givenchys S/S 2021 collection this year.
A bag that will now be considered more regal, modern and futuristic than its former counterpart, the new Antigona bag only denotes prestige. Crafted from box-finish calfskin and featuring Williams' love for industrial hardware - the Antigona bag sports its signature pentagonal patch alongside custom designed 4G padlocks reminiscent of love, paying tribute to the "love locks" of Paris and suggesting an open invitation for the wearer to customise the bag to their wildest desires.
The signature bag celebrated its 10th anniversary last year and has hallmarked its way into becoming an iconic staple for both men and women in luxury leather accessories. With its well considered schemes in architectural design and construction, the bag also features sophisticated geometry and a play in volumes. The new Antigona is imprinted with the signature GIVENCHY lettering on the back and include re-proportioned handles, a central compartment with the choice of a zip or magnetic closures, all finished with the 4G love padlock.
Creative director Matthew M Williams didn't stop reinventing the wheel there. Bringing his metamorphosis magic to the Antigona Soft bag and the Antigona U crossbody bag, both bags take on tasteful reconsiderations in aesthetic. The Antigona Soft bag features strong squared lines, drop length handles and of course, a 4G padlock. The Antigona U crossbody is available in Box-finish leather and a deconstructed version of the 4G padlock, giving the bag a modern and a very unique stance as an everyday accessory.
A mini version of the Antigona bag is also available as well as the unisex Vertical bag with both bags offering the wearer a choice of a leather removable strap or the G-link chain to accompany their bag and signature.
All Antigona leather handbags will be available in neutral colours or in seasonal shades of pink or red. The classic Antigona styles and sizes will be available in the choice of a Box-finish leather or crocodile embossed leather, all adorned with the new G-link chain.
Antigona accessories will be available in Givenchy boutiques and on givenchy.com starting on February 26th, 2020.
