Danny Boyle is bringing us a TV show based on the Sex Pistols

Prepare yourself for a gritty, raw interpretation of the Sex Pistols emergence of the mid-70s punk scene in Britain, through the lens of Trainspotting Director, Danny Boyle.

Boyle is set to direct a six-part television drama series that tells the story of the rise of the Sex Pistols. Entitled Pistol, the series will touch on the cultural shifts and commentary that took place during the emergence of the punk scene, and will be based around Lonely Boy - guitarist Steve Jones 2016 memoir.

”Imagine breaking into the world of The Crown and Downton Abbey with your mates and screaming your songs and your fury at all they represent,” Boyle told The Guardian. “It is the detonation point for British street culture where ordinary young people had the stage and vented their fury and their fashion, and everyone had to watch and listen and everyone feared them or followed them.”

He describes Jones, as a  "young, charming, illiterate kleptomaniac – a hero for the times... who became, in his own words, the ‘94th greatest guitarist of all time’.” and with the help of writers Craig Pearce and Frank Cottrell-Boyce, plans on telling the story of the young Sex Pistols from the council estates in which the group grew up together, to their global fame following the release of Never Mind The Bollocks - their legendary 1977 standalone studio album.

Maisie Williams has been cast to play Jordan Mooney and Toby Wallace as Steve Jones. John Lydon is to be portrayed by emerging star Anson Boon. John Lyndon has been yet to comment on the news of the upcoming series.

So far, we do not have a confirmed release date for the television show or a trailer, but the confirmation of cast member is enough for us to be sure that this is happening, and with Boyle at the helm, it will be one to remember.
