Everything we know about ‘Run The World,’ the new series praised as the next ‘Sex and the City’

Run The World Series

There aren't many shows with a cultural following and staying power quite as significant as Sex and the City. From the unforgettable fashion moments, to the equally ground-breaking (and sometimes controversial) storylines, there really is nothing quite like it. Which is exactly why when a new series comes along that is rumoured to follow in the footsteps of the iconic show, you can rest assured that we know about it. Enter, Run The World, the latest New York City-based sitcom to channel the late-90s sitcom.

The eight-episode, half-hour original series follows a group of four, fiercely loyal, vibrant, African American women living in Harlem, New York. The 30-somethings navigate their respective fields of friendship, work and love, while keeping an eye on one common goal – world domination. As Deadline describes it, Run The World "is an unapologetically female show about friendship and not only surviving — but thriving together." Major SATC vibes if you ask us.

The upcoming series will see Bresha Webb, Amber Stevens West, Andrea Bordeaux and Corbin Reid take on the roles of our four leading ladies, with Run The World created, written and executive produced by Leigh Davenport.

Run the World is a love letter to Black women and a love letter to Harlem, that I hope inspires young, ambitious Black women to feel powerful, desirable and free,” shared Davenport.

“I created this series to celebrate the amazing women in my life and to illuminate the special bonds we built living in Harlem, while pursuing our post-collegiate dreams.”

The creative team behind the Run The World series are worth mentioning too, including showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser, who has worked on Living Single, Black-ish, and Dear White People, and SATC original and Emily in Paris stylist Patricia Field, who will be assisting with the styling.

“Run the World is exactly the kind of bold, authentic, inclusive storytelling that Starz is committed to delivering to our global audience,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, President and CEO of Starz.

“We feel as though we have captured lightning in a bottle with the energy and chemistry of this cast and their portrayal of these distinct characters in this modern-day view of four female friends in New York City and we look forward to bringing the series to the platform.”
