An eternal symbol of the revolution of the “New Look”. An icon, a legend. The Bar Jacket sealed Christian Dior’s success in 1947, after appearing in his first Haute Couture collection. The hourglass figure has renewed its timeless essence, season after season with various Creative and Artistic Directors reinterpreting the stylistic emblem of the luxury Maison.
For the Autumn Winter 2020-21 collection show, the timeless Bar Jacket was revisited by Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri. The first look to open the show, a welcomed surprise of a new knit version became the key piece of the season. This incredible reinterpretation took four prototypes to accurately develop and create the volume and cut – a presenting challenge for the House’s ateliers.
A true object of desire, the new knit version combines the elegance of the original, with the freedom of comfort and movement. An elevated casual style that you are immediately drawn to feel and touch. A masterful creation that creates shape and form with knitwear.
I had the pleasure of seeing this iconic piece in real time, with my first immediate thought being, this would be the chicest and most heavenly plane jacket to ever live. To wear with sleek black knitted pants and a long sleeve cashmere tee. The ultimate in luxury and basically pure fantasy world. For now, I will stick to my low-key tracksuits, along with the hopes of when international travel will resume again in Australia, one can only dream of an outfit such as this to a destination unknown.
